Biography
Alisa J. Stephens Shields, Ph.D., is an Associate Professor of Biostatistics at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. Her research focuses on extensions and innovative applications of causal inference approaches to enhance the design and analysis of clinical trials. Dr. Stephens Shields has provided over a decade of statistical leadership to clinical trials and observational studies in areas including chronic pain, infectious disease, nutrition, and implementation science. She is an elected Fellow of the American Statistical Association and past recipient of the Myrto Lefkopoulou Distinguished Lectureship. Dr Stephens Shields currently serves as an associate editor for Biostatistics and the Annals of Internal Medicine. She holds Ph.D. and A.M. degrees in biostatistics from Harvard University and a B.S. in mathematics with minor in Spanish from the University of Maryland, College Park.
